Intrinsic Imaging Awarded Large 5 Year International Phase II Clinical Trial to Treat Iron Overload
San Antonio (TX), Bolton (MA), March 13, 2013
Intrinsic Imaging, an FDA audited, ISO 9001 and ISO 13485 certified imaging core lab specializing in providing imaging core lab services for clinical trials, announces today that it was recently awarded a large 5 year international Phase II clinical trial designed to evaluate a new therapy to treat patients suffering from chronic iron overload.
This multicenter international clinical trial consists of over 4,500 magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans. During this trial, Intrinsic Imaging will provide comprehensive imaging core lab services including, but not limited to, expert radiologist consultation, protocol and charter development, site qualification, training and management, as well as image acquisition, processing and the detailed radiologic review and analysis.
“Multiple disease processes cause abnormal accumulation of iron in body tissues. These include hemoglobinopathies such as thalassemia and sickle cell disease requiring repeated transfusions, hemochromatosis, and other anemias.” said Benjamin E. Tubb, M.D., Ph.D., board certified radiologist, at Intrinsic Imaging. “In some hemoglobinopathies and in hemochromatosis, excess iron deposition can lead to organ dysfunction from toxic accumulation of iron in tissues, especially the liver, heart, pancreas, and pituitary gland.”
Intrinsic Imaging’s team of more than sixty board-certified diagnostic radiologists possesses sub-specialization in all therapeutic areas. The gastrointestinal and cardiovascular radiologists at Intrinsic Imaging include subspecialized fellowship trained imaging experts with extensive experience in MRI imaging of the liver and heart.
“With sub-specialized training in the areas of MRI and Body Imaging from some of the premier institutions in the world, Intrinsic Imaging radiologists routinely perform and interpret cardiac and liver MRI examinations for a wide variety of clinical and research studies.” said Todd A. Joron, BSc. MBA, President and Chief Operating Officer, Intrinsic Imaging. “We are very pleased to contribute our operational and therapeutic expertise towards this international Phase II clinical trial for the treatment of patients suffering from chronic iron overload.”
